About this vacancy

We are looking for an R&D Engineer with solid mechanical design experience to contribute to the development of new machines and systems for the radiopharmaceutical sector (synthesis modules, dispensing and fractionation systems, quality control systems, shielded components, and handling in confined environments).

Mechanical design is the core of this position: you will be responsible for the development cycle of the component and assembly, from concept to prototype, validation, and transfer to production.

Main responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and assemblies for radiopharmaceutical machines, from concept to detailed design
  • Create 3D models, technical drawings, and BOMs (Bill of Materials) applying GD&T and technical drawing standards
  • Design radiation shielding (lead, tungsten, steel) optimizing weight, dimensions, and ALARA
  • Design fluidic paths and components in contact with the product (valves, tubes, single-use cassettes, connections), selecting compatible materials (e.g., 316L, PEEK, PTFE, PP)
  • Design motion and automation systems (pneumatic and electric actuators, slides, arms, gripping and transfer mechanisms)
  • Produce and validate prototypes, define test plans, and analyze results
  • Perform tolerance analyses, structural calculations, and, where necessary, FEM simulations
  • Work with electronics, software, and controls in a multidisciplinary team
  • Contribute to technical documentation to ensure compliance with regulations and GMP requirements (design specification, risk assessment/FMEA, support for IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Select and qualify suppliers and components, supporting industrialization and production
  • Manage design changes (change control) and support technical assistance and continuous improvement of installed products

What we expect from you

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent: Mechatronics, Management with a mechanical focus, etc.)
  • Proven experience of 3+ years in mechanical design of machines or automated systems (valid sectors: pharmaceutical, biomedical, pharmaceutical packaging, automation, instrumentation)
  • Direct experience with radiopharmaceutical machines: synthesis modules, dispensers, hot cells, isolators, fractionation systems
  • Knowledge of radioprotection principles and design challenges in the presence of ionizing radiation (shielding, material resistance to radiation, decontamination)
  • Knowledge of GMP, EU GMP Annex 1 and Annex 3, GAMP 5, cleanroom environments (ISO 14644) and design for cleanability
  • Experience with single-use devices/cassettes for automated synthesis
  • Expert proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or similar) and PDM/PLM management
  • Solid knowledge of applied mechanics, materials, mechanical processes, tolerances, and GD&T
  • Experience in fluidic, pneumatic, or motion system design
  • Ability to work from concept to functional prototype
  • Good knowledge of English (written and spoken)

What you can expect from us

The position includes a permanent contract and the offered basic gross annual salary (RAL) will not be less than €38,000.00, in accordance with the provisions of the CCNL Commercio – Terziario, Distribuzione e Servizi.
