How long have you been a trainee at TMC?

Since September 2022, I’ve been a trainee within TMC Mechanical & Mechatronics. Since then, I’ve been working on an impressive project at Microsure.

What do you like most about the traineeship at TMC?

The trainee group! Besides everything that is already organized at TMC, we also enjoy meeting up outside of work. But also, the development of soft skills and helping each other with this. We are all starters with the same interests and that connects us.

What’s your background?

I studied Biomedical Technology with a focus on Biorobotics. The study is aimed at, among other things, creating robots and mechatronics that advance healthcare.

Who’s your client and what project are you working on?

My project is with Microsure, a specialist in microsurgery (e.g., blood vessels of 2mm and smaller). My main task is to develop a mechanical design of the console held by surgeon. This input is used for the surgical robot. So, transitioning from ketching alongside a senior to managing part orders, and from crunching numbers to overseeing assembly. Actually the entire process.

What are the benefits of a traineeship at TMC?

The opportunity to develop a certain foundation in the mechanical field and also complement it through soft and hard skills. Additionally, peer coaching and mutual connection are also very valuable.

What’s your favorite memory as a trainee (so far)?

Fun: the TMC party in Den Bosch in 2023. Learning: the annual training with an actor (part of soft skills).

If your traineeship were a movie title, what would it be?

“The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’’: Everyone shares their highs and lows, so you share the same experience, and all these learning processes don’t always go smoothly.

Would you’ve done things differently with the knowledge you have now?

No, not really. It is what it is.

What’s your tip for your fellow trainees?

Don’t worry. Every starter is in the same boat, and you quickly get to know others. Be open and consider meeting up with your group beforehand to get to know each other better.

What has the traineeship brought you so far?

The traineeship has given me opportunities and insights into presenting projects to different target audiences and how to position myself towards these diverse groups. From doctors to students and everything in between.

So, what’s next?

Finish the project and then we’ll see. I definitely want to continue in the direction of Mechanical/Medtechs.

What’s your ‘forever dream’?

As long as I’m enjoying myself, then I’m good. If not, then we have to move on!
