About this vacancy

Every day, you process excavation notifications from contractors and network operators in a digital notification system. You check these notifications for completeness: are the working drawings, permits, and traffic plans included? You also verify that the planned date and time don't conflict with other activities in the public space. If there are uncertainties, you contact the notifier and either approve or reject the excavation notification.

Additionally, you are responsible for daily supervision of contractors carrying out work in the public space on behalf of network operators. This includes repairing water pipes, upgrading the electricity grid, or laying data cables. Where necessary, you enforce requirements from municipal permits, the handbook on cables and pipelines, and other relevant regulations—for instance, the use of appropriate barriers around the work area or ensuring accessibility to homes and shops. You guarantee the safety of residents and visitors in the city.

You also handle questions and complaints about the work carried out by contractors and network operators in two digital notification systems. This could be a query about when the work will be completed or a complaint from a resident unable to access their front door. You contact the contractor or network operator, ensure the question or complaint is addressed, and resolve it administratively afterward.

The city is large, so you perform this work alongside another cable and pipeline supervisor. You work closely with the coordinator and the permit issuer. At their request, you arrange site inspections with contractors and network operators to assess the feasibility of planned activities. Your input contributes to whether a permit application is approved or rejected. Additionally, you participate in the emergency service for several weeks a year.

Your key responsibilities

  • Keeping daily records and updates in various digital notification systems, frequently liaising with contractors, network operators, and colleagues
  • Advising the cable and pipeline coordinator, contractors, and network operators on assessing permit applications and traffic plans, in close collaboration with the flow manager and colleagues from various urban and neighborhood maintenance disciplines
  • Supervising and enforcing work agreements, permit requirements, and other relevant regulations on-site
  • Identifying deviations in execution and resolving them where possible in consultation with colleagues, contractors, and network operators

What we expect from you

You get excited about overseeing and coordinating work on cables and pipelines scattered throughout the city. You’re not afraid to address contractors and their clients regarding the quality of delivered work.

You communicate easily with various target groups. Whether you're talking to a resident about the accessibility of their home, a contractor's employee working in the ground, or the contractor's client: you understand the different interests involved and work together with all stakeholders to find a solution when conflicts arise, ensuring the work can proceed safely. You enjoy being on the move in the city and thrive on daily communication with a variety of parties. Additionally, you bring competencies typical of a supervisor: planning and organizing, showing initiative, flexibility, and focusing on results.

What do you bring?

  • MBO-level thinking and working ability (level 4)
  • Relevant work experience, for example in civil engineering or landscape engineering, or you recognize yourself in the competencies outlined above
  • Digital skills
  • Driver’s license B
  • Certificates such as VCA VOL, Professional Traffic Controller, Soil B CROW 400, and Safe Working Along Roads (or the willingness to obtain them)
