Success story

“What made the difference was knowing I wasn’t on my own”

If you look at Omar Abozaid’s (35) career, one thing stands out immediately: he keeps moving forward. Born in Saudi Arabia, raised in Egypt, and with work experience in Malta and Ireland, Omar has built his international career step by step. Since March 2025, he has been working as an Automation Expert at TMC in Germany, developing building automation solutions for the pharmaceutical industry - while settling into a new country at the same time.

From Egypt to Europe

Omar studied Electrical Power and Control Engineering in Egypt, where his fascination with industrial automation began. Over the years, he built more than ten years of experience working with PLC and SCADA systems, database connectivity, vision systems, robotics and laser applications.

“My focus was always on making thoughtful career choices,” he explains. “Working in different countries was never a goal in itself. But each step gave me new skills and perspectives. Living and working abroad taught me how to adapt and understand different ways of working.”

First contact with TMC

TMC first approached Omar in January 2024 via LinkedIn. The way they communicated immediately made an impression. “It was clear and personal,” he says. “They explained how they work, what the process looks like and what I could expect. That transparency made it feel right from the start.”

Not long after, concrete plans followed for Omar to start an assignment in Germany through TMC Germany. He was already preparing for the move when things suddenly changed. “The client cancelled the assignment for economic reasons,” Omar explains. “One moment everything was set, and the next it was gone. I was ready to move and start working in Germany and suddenly that opportunity disappeared. That was tough.”

Support during uncertainty

A period of uncertainty followed, but TMC stayed closely involved. “They kept in regular contact and actively searched for a new assignment in Germany,” Omar says. “They continued presenting

my profile to other clients and really put effort into helping me get started. That support meant a lot.”

Joining TMC and moving to Germany

In March 2025, everything came together. Omar officially joined TMC as an Automation Expert and started his first assignment at a German pharmaceutical company. Around the same time, he moved to Germany. “TMC supported me with practical things, like finding an apartment, and the onboarding process went smoothly,” he says. One moment in particular stayed with him. “My manager drove eight hours to visit me at the client’s site. That says a lot about TMC’s commitment.”

Even though the TMC office is far from his work location, Omar still feels connected. “Events like the summer party and the Christmas activity really help you feel part of the TMC community.”

Working in pharmaceutical automation

Omar works in a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment. “That requires precision, but it also makes the work interesting,” he explains. He recently completed his first project successfully, including all testing and validation phases. “Knowing that your work contributes to safe production makes it meaningful.”

Alongside his projects, Omar continues to develop himself. With a strong background in Industry 4.0, he is increasingly interested in Industry 5.0, where technology and human collaboration come together.

A new home in Germany

Moving to Germany was not only a professional milestone, but a personal one as well. Omar moved first and settled in before his wife and two young daughters joined him later in 2025. “For my wife, the move was a big change,” he says. “She had never lived outside Egypt before. For the kids, it’s easier - they go to school, make new friends and adapt quickly.”

He appreciates the German work culture. “Feedback is direct. If something goes well, you hear it. If something needs improvement, you hear that too. I like that.”

Daily life also took some getting used to. “Germany is very different from Egypt - in climate, culture and daily rhythm,” he says. “I’m learning German now, which is challenging and very different from Arabic. And while life in Egypt continues late into the night, evenings here are much quieter.”

Looking ahead

For Omar, Germany feels like the right place to be. “We’re still settling in, but our intention is to make Germany our home,” he says. “There are strong career opportunities, a good quality of life and good education for our children.”

Looking back, Omar feels positive about his journey, including the bumps along the way. “The cancelled assignment and the months of uncertainty really tested my patience,” he reflects. “What made the difference was knowing I wasn’t on my own. TMC stayed involved, believed in my profile and continued to support me.”

“And that support means a lot,” he adds. “Not just for my career, but also for the future we’re building here as a family.”
