AI opens new ways of thinking about problem solving

A winding path into technology

Alejandra was born in Madrid and moved to Seville at 18 to study Physics. “Halfway through, I decided to take a break and do a higher degree in Diagnostic Imaging,” she says. “During my internship in Nuclear Medicine, I worked closely with other physicists. That motivated me to go back to Physics and finish my degree.”

After graduating, she discovered something unexpected: she was really good at programming. “I took part in a small training program in Java and MicroStrategy, and from there I landed my first job in IT. I was part of a multidisciplinary pool that jumped into projects that were delayed or had specific technical gaps. It was challenging, but it forced me to learn new technologies very quickly and adapt to all kinds of situations. It also gave me the confidence to solve problems and put improvements in place on my own.”

A new chapter with TMC

By 2021, Alejandra was ready for a next step. She joined TMC in August that year and soon started working in the data team of a large fashion retailer. “My role as tech lead is very dynamic, which I love. No two days look the same. One day I’m reviewing tasks, another I’m doing development, research, testing or documentation. What I enjoy most is that I can be involved in all the stages of a project, from definition and proof of concept to deployment and beyond.”

One highlight so far? “I’m proud that I managed to redesign the existing data flows and set up a whole new way of orchestrating processes within the team,” she says. “In another project, we developed a tool that connects job seekers with opportunities, and we got impressive results in record time. That was really rewarding.”

Inspired by AI

Recently, Alejandra has been exploring how AI can support her work in development. “It’s amazing to see how fast AI can generate and refine code,” she says. But for her, the real value goes beyond speed. “What excites me is how AI opens new ways of thinking about problem solving. It’s not just about producing results faster, it’s about approaching challenges from a different angle. Sometimes the suggestions AI gives are not what you would normally consider, and that sparks new ideas and solutions you might not have thought of otherwise.”

This combination of efficiency and creativity is what makes AI such an inspiring tool for her. “It motivates me to look at how AI can become part of daily workflows, so we can not only work more efficiently but also rethink the way we solve problems.”

Learning never really ends

Her curiosity is not limited to AI.  “For me, learning never really ends,” Alejandra says. “Even in my daily work, I try not to ignore small issues. If something unexpected happens, I like to dig into it and understand why. Most of the time it teaches me something new. Even the tiniest errors can give you fresh insights. There’s always something to discover if you stay curious.”
