From lab coat to leadership role
Kevin Leunissen (34) joined TMC in April 2020 and recently hit his five-year milestone. He started out in a hands-on lab role and, five projects later, is now contributing to a sustainability initiative in the chemical industry. As part of a collaborative effort, Kevin is exploring how plasma technology can help future-proof industrial processes. A lot has happened in five years - so time to catch up with this enthusiastic professional, who feels just as at home in the lab as he does at the table in TMC’s Works Council.

How it all started
After graduating from Eindhoven University of Technology, Kevin worked at a few different companies. One of them brought him into contact with TMC employeneurs. “We connected right away. I was impressed by how passionate they were about TMC and this whole ‘employeneurship’ idea.”
Soon after, he had an interview with TMC. “It was the best job interview I’ve ever had. We clicked instantly. It just felt right.” And he started his first project as a lab technician - “not my dream job, but a solid foundation to build on.”
A favourite project
Over the years, Kevin worked on a range of projects - from materials expert to development engineer in the high-tech industry. But one project in particular stands out: a role as Test & Validation Engineer at an automotive company in Germany.
“I wasn’t the obvious choice. They were looking for a physicist, and I’m a chemist. But I got the opportunity anyway, and it paid off.”
Kevin thrived in the fast-paced environment and liked the challenge of bringing structure to chaos. “I was testing, analyzing data, writing reports - and for the first time, I also had a role in coordinating, planning and keeping things on track.”
At the same time, he was renovating his house. “That experience made me realize how much I enjoy keeping an overview, creating order, and making things run smoothly - in both work and life.”

A voice in the Works Council
Last year, Kevin joined TMC’s Works Council - a way for him to contribute beyond his daily work. “I like being involved in where the company is heading. It’s important to keep investing in employeneurs and protect the personal vibe that makes TMC unique.”
For Kevin, TMC isn’t just a stepping stone. “It’s not the kind of place you just pass through. I’m happy to do my part to make sure others get the same opportunities to grow and develop as I’ve had.”
Working on something that matters
These days, Kevin is leading a project focused on sustainability. He’s researching how plasma technology could make chemical processes cleaner and help reduce CO₂ emissions.
“It’s still early stages,” he says, “but it feels good to contribute to something that could really have an impact. Even if my role is just a small piece of the puzzle, it still matters.”
And that sense of purpose, along with the support he gets, keeps him motivated. “What I really value about TMC is that they don’t just throw you onto any project. They take the time to understand where you want to grow and help you move in that direction. That’s what makes me feel like I’m in the right place.”
