Succesverhalen

"I love projects that feel like solving a tricky puzzle where the solution isn’t obvious."

Since March 2023, Spanish software engineer Daniel Rodriguez (25) has been a member of the TMC Luxembourg team. In that time, he’s had the opportunity to work with two different clients and is eager for what’s next. “What I love about TMC is the chance to explore a variety of companies and industries. TMC helps you grow. Not just in your hard skills through challenging projects, but also in your soft skills, thanks to their support and training opportunities.” We caught up with Daniel to hear more about his move from Madrid to Luxembourg, what drives him in his work and his plans for the future.

Daniel Rodriguez - Software engineer, TMC Luxembourg

Daniel studied business administration and computer engineering at the Universidad Politécnica in Madrid. After a short time working in Madrid, he started thinking more internationally. He initially dreamed of moving to Korea or China, but due to COVID-19, those plans didn’t work out. Eventually, he got the opportunity to take an internship at Amazon in Luxembourg.

From Madrid to Luxembourg

And so, his adventure in Luxembourg began. After working at Amazon, Daniel set his sights on a software engineering role at one of the Big Four accounting firms in Luxembourg. However, there was one condition: the company could only hire him through a consulting firm. “I had to choose between three consulting firms, and TMC was one of them,” Daniel shares.

Choosing TMC

“I chose TMC,” he says. “They were super transparent about how everything works. It felt safe, reliable and like they genuinely had my back. That openness and sense of trust were the main reasons I decided to join TMC.

Daniel’s first TMC project came to an end after about 1.5 years, leaving him with a few months of bench time. For Daniel, however, bench time wasn’t about taking a break - it was an opportunity to get creative and make a difference.

Making bench time count

“During my bench time, I built a tool to automate CV formatting,” he says. “It cleaned up messy CVs into neat, consistent files and even generated qualification meeting reports with just a few clicks.”

Using Python, Flask and HTMX, Daniel put together a practical solution that saved loads of time and boosted efficiency. “Bench time at TMC isn’t about doing nothing,” he explains. “It’s all about learning, growing and doing something meaningful.”

Tackling complexity

Fast forward to today, and Daniel has been taking on a new challenge at a Luxembourg bank since October 2024. As an automation specialist, he’s been unravelling a chaotic ETL process.

“Picture endless email attachments, clunky VBA macros and far too many manual steps,” Daniel says. “It was a mess.” To tackle it, he proposed two options: a quick fix using a local executable for immediate results, or a full web app for long-term scalability. “We went with the quick solution first to get improvements fast, and it’s already making life easier for everyone.”

For Daniel, projects like this are exactly what energizes him. “I love working on tricky problems,” he says. “It’s like solving a challenging puzzle - I’m all in for that.”

Staying connected to the TMC team

Even though Daniel spends most of his time at the client’s office, he still feels very much part of the TMC team.

“Once a month, we all get together,” he says. “We talk about work, tech solutions or just life in general. TMC Luxembourg is a small group of around 20 colleagues and I feel connected to them. We share knowledge, exchange experiences and learn from each other. That sense of connection and community means a lot to me.”

Looking to the future

When it comes to the future, Daniel sees plenty of opportunities at TMC. “What I value about TMC is how they help you grow - not just in hard skills but also in soft skills. They connect you with interesting projects and actively encourage personal development through support and training.”

Daniel hopes to keep working on challenging projects that push him to think outside the box. “I love tackling complex problems where the solution isn’t obvious,” he explains. “It’s those tricky, thought-provoking puzzles that I enjoy the most - where you really have to dig deep and find creative ways to make things work.”

Long-term, though, Madrid still holds a special place in his heart. “I’m a Madrileño through and through,” Daniel admits. “I sometimes miss the warmth, the culture, and, of course, my family. Maybe one day, I’ll start my own SaaS company back in Madrid. But for now, TMC offers me the ideal mix of exciting challenges and growth opportunities.”

For anyone considering joining TMC, Daniel has one piece of advice: “Go for it. You’ll have the chance to grow, try out different industries and work on interesting projects. And you’re not on your own - it’s a place where you can challenge yourself while having the support you need along the way. It’s the best of both worlds.”
