Building trust through technology
When Alejandro Ortiz García joined TMC a year ago, he was ready for a challenge that would stretch both his technical and leadership skills. Today, as Technical Lead for fraud prevention at Inditex, he’s guiding a multidisciplinary team in redesigning the tools that protect thousands of stores worldwide. Alejandro: “For me, being a Technical Lead is about balancing technical vision and human leadership. It’s not only about making architectural decisions, but also about creating an environment where collaboration and quality are priorities.”
From blank page to breakthrough
The project started with an ambitious goal: to reimagine Inditex’s entire fraud prevention system. Instead of patching old tools, the team began with a clean slate. “We analysed the market, proposed a solution tailored to the client’s needs, and designed the architecture using the technologies we believed were the best fit,” Alejandro explains. “Every member of the team joined from day one, and seeing how everyone gave their best has been the most rewarding part.”
The result is a new, unified platform with automated flows, real-time integrations, and clear dashboards, making it possible to spot suspicious refund patterns or transaction inconsistencies instantly.
Trust is fundamental
From day one, Alejandro felt the impact of TMC’s confidence in his abilities: “TMC placed its trust in me by giving me a key role as the technical reference to lead this project. That trust has been fundamental for my development. This challenge has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.”
That same sense of trust became the backbone of his leadership style, especially with a remote team spread across locations. “Leading remotely means being intentional about communication and inclusion,” Alejandro explains. “I’ve learned to trust more and measure progress through outcomes, not presence.”
AI supports decision-making
Alejandro’s team brings together backend and frontend engineers, data specialists, QA experts, functional analysts, and business professionals. What makes it work? Diversity of expertise, ideas, and perspectives. “We’ve built more than a system. We’ve built a stronger way of working together. The project has shown how technology can serve people, and how teamwork and shared purpose can overcome even the toughest challenges,” Alejandro explains.
The team’s work also shows how innovation happens in practice. With machine learning models analysing historical data, they can detect irregular behaviour faster and more accurately, while keeping people involved in every key decision. Alejandro: “AI helps us prioritise alerts and identify potential risks earlier. It supports decision-making, not replaces it.”
Small details have huge impacts
As the first pilot launch approaches, Alejandro looks back on a year of learning, adaptation, and shared success. “I’d tell my past self: trust the process and your team more,” he says with a smile. “You don’t need to have all the answers from the start. Big projects come together step by step.”
Working in fraud prevention has also changed how he views technology itself: “It makes you aware of how small details can have huge impacts. It’s also made me value ethical technology design, detecting risks while keeping people and trust at the centre of everything.”
