What will you be doing?

Our client develops advanced opto-mechanical systems for complex applications in demanding environments. Our Optics department plays a key role in delivering cutting-edge optical solutions that contribute to a healthier, safer, more sustainable, and digital world. We work alongside industry partners in fields such as space, semiconductors, quantum technologies, structural health monitoring, medical technology, and big science instrumentation.

As a Senior Optical Engineer, you will take the technical lead in the full process of designing, building, and validating these high-precision optical systems. This work follows the MAIT process (Manufacturing, Assembly, Integration & Testing) and involves the use of advanced tools and techniques.

You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team of around 60 experts within the Optics department, and collaborate closely with optical designers, mechanical and thermal engineers, calibration and integration specialists, and colleagues from other departments including Opto-Mechatronics, Quantum Technologies, Semicon Equipment, and Space Systems Engineering.

What do we expect from you?

As a Senior Optical Engineer, you combine deep technical knowledge with strong organizational skills. You enjoy working with experts from various disciplines and are meticulous in handling and testing complex optical systems. To succeed in this role, you recognize yourself in the following profile:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Applied (Optical) Physics.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in high-end optical engineering.
• Experience with Thermal Infrared, Machine Learning, or Laser Satcom is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret technical and optical design drawings.
• Strong affinity with complex optical systems and precision handling of optics.
• A structured and detail-oriented approach to your work and documentation.
• An ambition to grow and to help develop the expertise of your team.
• A continuous drive to improve the quality of your work and that of the team.
• A collaborative mindset – you enjoy achieving results as part of a team.
• Strong communication skills and a results-driven attitude.
• Proficiency in English (spoken and written), given our international environment.
