TMC expands to Lisbon
On May 5th, TMC opened its second office in Portugal. Following the success in Porto, the company has now set its sights on Lisbon. The ambitions are big: while TMC Portugal currently employs 60 employeneurs, that number is expected to grow to 150-200 by 2030. The expansion aligns with broader goals: strengthening international collaboration, broadening the service portfolio, and improving connections with both clients and employeneurs.
Tempo di lettura: min.Growing community
The decision to open an office in Lisbon was not a random one. Portugal’s capital symbolises growth and opportunity. The city offers a broader playing field, facilitating international cooperation and expansion. It’s also a practical move. Around 60% of TMC’s Portuguese client base is located in Lisbon.
“We wanted a location that would bring us closer to our clients as well as our growing community of employeneurs”, says Emmanuel Mielvaque, CEO of TMC Spain and Portugal. “Our employeneurs don’t just come from Portugal. We also have many Brazilian professionals, working both remotely from Brazil and locally from within Portugal. Most of them are based in the south, which made Lisbon the right choice.”
Establishing a new office
João Dinis, Associate Director at TMC Portugal, will be leading both the Porto and Lisbon offices. For him, the new location in Lisbon is about more than just logistics. “There’s definitely going to be more time spent on the road”, he laughs. “But the real challenge is coaching, building relationships, and developing a strong team.”
He describes the first month as dynamic, full of energy, excitement, and a strong responsibility. “We’ve laid the foundation for a solid team and plan to grow quickly. Ideally to around 20 to 25 people within the first year.”
A key connection between Europe and Latin America
The link between Brazil and Portugal is crucial to TMC Lisbon. The two countries share more than just a language. They have a deep historical and cultural connection. By operating across both regions and time zones, TMC can strengthen its international presence. European clients benefit from local expertise based in Portugal, while US-based companies are better aligned with teams working in the Brazilian time zone.
Some teams even operate in a hybrid model. Think of a business analyst on site in Portugal working together with a specialist, remotely, in Brazil.
“We’re excited to expand our reach into Brazil. The collaboration is proving effective on both sides”, says João. “We’re actively looking to grow our Brazilian talent pool. With our presence in Lisbon, we’re ideally positioned to serve both the Portuguese and Brazilian market.”
Expanding beyond IT
Traditionally, northern Portugal has had an industrial focus, while the south leans more towards services. “Our original vision for TMC Portugal centred around digital and IT. IT remains our core strength”, Emmanuel explains. “But since early this year, we’ve also been focusing on engineering profiles. There’s a high demand, and we want to tap into all the available talent in Portugal. Including highly skilled technical professionals.”
TMC Lisbon is far more than a satellite office. It is a strategic hub designed to strengthen service delivery for existing clients, attract top talent, and enhance ties with international markets. Whether it’s connecting with Brazil, supporting clients in the US, or collaborating with partners in Europe, the new Lisbon office plays a central role in TMC’s global network.
